Predictable

We like life to be predictable. The first day of spring should mean warm sunshine and flowers, not cold and driving snow. Palm Sunday should also be warm, but it’s possible we will yet again have some snow. If there is need for a cancellation or change in worship it will be on WSET 13 and the church Facebook page. Please remember that conditions may be different on your street or neighborhood, so please use your best judgment if conditions are worse where you are. We like life to be predictable, but we realize it is frequently not.
The same was true for Holy Week. Palm Sunday began with the triumphant scene of Jesus entering Jerusalem. People yelled “Hosanna!” It was an expression of joy, but also carries the connotation of “help, save us!” People laid down palm branches and cloaks. They cried out “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Yet in a few short days those cheers of joy and homage changed to shouts of derision, anger, and hate. “Crucify him!” “We want Barabbas!” How quickly those emotions and feelings changed when Jesus wasn’t who they expected the Messiah to be. Praise God on Easter that the most unpredictable, most surprising thing occurred, the Resurrection of Christ and the empty tomb. So while life is unpredictable, sometimes it is unpredictably very good.
Holy Week was fraught with feelings and physicality. It brings forth deep emotions. I hope you will join us as much as possible for our Holy Week services and invite others as we faithfully follow and remember the path Jesus took on our behalf. Our Maundy Thursday service is at 7pm, Good Friday service is at 7pm, and Easter services at 9:15am and 10:30am.
Also, in April we will begin a new Bible study “Churchy Words.” Stay tuned for more information about that next week!
